Relief shown by shading and spot heights.

"This map shows countries in proportion to their relatives sizes. It is based upon Arno Peters' decimal grid which divides the surface of the earth into 100 longitudinal fields of equal width and 100 latitudinal fields of equal height; it treats the rectangles around the equator as squares and builds the other rectangles onto these in proportion to the areas they represent. The zero meridian on this system is combined with a proposed new International Date Line. This new decimal grid is only indicated, however, on the outer border of the map. The grid marked on the map itself is based on the traditional 180 degree division, The present dateline is shown on the map with a dotted line."

Panel title.

Designed to be folded to 24 x 11 cm.

"The map which represents countries accurately according to their surface areas."

"Area scale 1:1,230,000,000 million."

Includes 4 ancillary world maps in margin that show the distortion of traditional maps.

"This map produced with the support of United Nations Development Programme."
