First published in 1926, then republished with extensive revisions in 1948, this remains one of the best introductions to Tagore's work. Thompson here attempts to undermine the Orientalist mythmaking about Tagore that began with Yeats. His book offers an informed discussion as well as an attractive display of Tagore's work.
