The historians working on the subjects like land, landed elites, and resource management in regard to India have felt them so complex that it would always necessitate attempts to gain new understanding.
Based on original documents preserved in the various archives in South India and the National Archives, New Delhi as well as some of the Collector and Tehsildar offices of the areas concerned, the present book is a collection of some of the articles presented at various stages of the career on the above subjects pertaining especially to some parts of south India.
This book touches upon the problems like British economic thought on the introduction of the rayatwari system; method of land measurement and assessment; some important village officials like village patels and karnams; the drought management, and nature of the palegar revolts.
It is hoped that this anthology should be of interest to all those interested in the problems like land, landed elites, and resource management especially in regard to certain regions of south India.
