Summary: Film 2: Niravan (Nazir Hussain) the village postmaster receives an envelope containing a very valuable cheque, with the instructions that he is to turn this cheque over to the most honest man in the village. Niravan calls a village meeting and explains his predicament. The meeting agrees that there are five people in the village who may be called honest. However, since the stipulation states that the cheque may be given to only one person, elections are held in the village, so that everyone can decide who the most honest man is. Summary: Film 3: A landowner gives Shambu (Balraj Sahni) and his wife (Nirupa Roy) three months to pay off their farm rent, or the land will be sold to build a factory. In desperation to keep their farm, they move to Calcutta in an attempt to make money and save their ancestral lands, but eventually come home to find they are already gone.
